The Evatt competition (named after Herbert “Doc” Evatt, who was an Australian High Court Justice and a leading Federal politician who became President of the UN General Assembly and helped draft the Universal Declaration of Human Rights) is a Model United Nations Security Council diplomacy competition where students are paired as teams and allocated a country. They are then required to debate and vote on prepared resolutions from the perspective of their nation. Connor and Chloe progressed through the Sunshine Coast and Queensland Semi-Finals to compete in the Queensland Grand Final held in the Parliamentary Annex against 14 other ‘countries’. Whilst they did not go on to the Nationals, they performed to an exemplary standard.
